"She bought my first decent hunting bow when we were going together in high school. She got me hooked." - Gary on his wife Carol's role introducing him to the sport
Bowhunting isn't just Gary's hobby—it's a family affair. His wife Carol, whom he's been married to for nearly 50 years, also bowhunts and was instrumental in getting him started decades ago. Their children and grandchildren are all active archers and bowhunters, a legacy Carol attributes to years spent at the archery range as a family.
"When our kids were little, we spent many hours out at the archery range," Carol says. "It's good family time, and I think that it needs to get back to where people are spending more time with their families."
Gary emphasizes the importance of proper instruction when starting out. His advice to newcomers: find someone already involved in archery or bowhunting and get hands-on guidance with the equipment.
