All shooters must either: - Have attended a KCSM match before, OR - Hold IDPA Classification MM or above (any division), OR - Hold USPSA Classification D or above (any division)
If you don't meet these, you're considered a new shooter. No problem—free orientation happens before every match at Law Enforcement Range 1 (LE1), starting 45 minutes after gates open. Orientation is brief but required; it starts promptly with no late admission.
Bring to orientation: - Eye and ear protection - Unloaded handgun (cased or holstered) - At least two magazines or speed loaders - Minimum 100 rounds of ammunition - IDPA-approved holster mounted to secure belt - Cover garment
After passing orientation, you shoot the match immediately. All new shooters get paired with an experienced club member who guides you through the day. Safety officers and other members offer tips and corrections to help you shoot safely and understand the rules.
Every shooter must help during the match: setup, scorekeeping, pasting targets, policing brass, and teardown while waiting to shoot. Squad assignments rotate through four south ranges (LE1, LE2, LE3, MP4), with distances from 70-100 yards. One stage is typically on each range.
Matches use Mill Creek Rifle Club's south ranges exclusively during match times. Mill Creek is a private, members-only facility; gates open only during KCSM matches. The facility is active year-round with other shooting happening, so eye and ear protection is required near any firing line, whether KCSM is shooting or not.
To join: 1. Fill out online application 2. Show up at a match to complete orientation 3. Pay $20 membership fee (cash or check) 4. Provide proof of current NRA, IDPA, or equivalent 2nd Amendment organization membership
Memberships run January through January and renew during December/January sign-up sessions. The club provides computers at matches if you need to complete your renewal application in person.
All staff and leadership positions are entirely uncompensated volunteer work. Match fees cover range rental, targets, pasters, and consumables. Annual dues and accumulated fees pay for club insurance, website hosting, and capital equipment replacements like steel targets and scoring devices.
KCSM has been running matches since at least 2000 and maintains this website to keep the shooting community connected to monthly schedules and match information.
All member information is stored securely online and used solely for club operations. The club does not share or sell member data. If you prefer not to submit information online, you can register in person at the match-day registration table (LE2 range shelter).
