Able Defense

Able Defense is run by David and Keith Tanksley, both Kentucky DOCJT-certified Carrying Concealed Deadly Weapons instructors and NRA Range Safety Officers. They focus on getting shooters trained properly so they can exercise—and protect—their Second Amendment rights.

Core Classes: - KY DOCJT CCDW Class – $75 per applicant. Mandatory 6-8 hour certification required by Kentucky law. Covers legal requirements, safety, and range qualification. - Additional Pistol Training (Range Only) – $85 per applicant - Close Quarter Pistol (Range Only) – $125 per applicant - Church Staff Security Education – $30 per applicant - Church Staff Security Skills Range Qualification – $25 per applicant - LEOSA Certification – $20 per person

You don't need to own a firearm. Able Defense has pistols available for use. Bring 50 rounds of ammunition (original packaging), ear and eye protection, comfortable clothing, and a positive attitude.

"The DOCJT CCDW Class is required to be 6 Hours Minimum and 8 Hours Maximum by Law."

You must be a Kentucky resident, at least 21 by class date, and meet state eligibility requirements (no serious criminal convictions, substance violations, or unresolved warrants in the past 3 years). The class covers everything you need to pass—no prior shooting experience required.

Class dates are posted on their website. Register online with a $25 deposit—your spot isn't held until payment clears. Upon confirmation, you'll receive class details and range location information.
