Location details and information
Established in 2023, Pine State Pistoleros brings cowboy mounted shooting to Maine through the Cowboy Mounted Shooting Association (CMSA). This isn't just target practice—it's a fast-paced sport combining equestrian skill with precision shooting that draws spectators for the action and excitement.
Riders compete across multiple stages, shooting with pre-1898 single-action revolvers or modern replicas (Colt Single Action Army, Bisley, Smith & Wesson Schofield, Remington 1875/1890, Ruger Vaqueros) loaded with black powder .45LC blanks. Targets are balloons positioned 8-20 feet away. Each course includes two sets of five balloons, with gates, barrels, and rundowns adding complexity. Advanced competition can incorporate rifle, shotgun, or cavalry runs.
