2nd Amd Firearms Training operates out of Prince Frederick, serving the Southern Maryland region with instruction from current and retired law enforcement officers and military veterans. Every instructor brings real-world experience—the instructors collectively have 50+ years of training, law enforcement, and military service.
The operation is 100% veteran owned and operated, with a stated mission to provide "the best training in a safe and comfortable environment."
The 4-hour Maryland HQL is the baseline requirement for handgun purchases in the state. 2nd Amd offers it in two formats:
Recently added one extra hour to the HQL covering in-depth home defense and use of force with real-world scenario demonstrations.
$350 for a 2-day course (Saturday & Sunday, 9am-5pm)
This is their signature offering. You get training certification valid for concealed carry in Maryland, DC, Virginia, Utah, Florida, Pennsylvania, and Arizona—which reciprocally covers 35+ states total.
Day One (Classroom) - Firearms safety and handgun nomenclature - Fundamentals of shooting - Firearms cleaning and safe storage - Handgun malfunction drills - State and federal concealed carry laws - Shoot/don't-shoot scenarios - Self-defense and home defense - Holster selection and drawing techniques
Day Two (Range) - Live fire exercises with NRA Certified Range Safety Officers - Malfunction drills with live ammunition - Opportunity to shoot multiple handguns to find your carry gun - Full qualification course of fire - Free lunch provided on Day One
If you have your own handgun, bring 25 rounds on Day Two. If not, they provide firearms and all ammunition.
$275 for 16 hours over 2 days (Sat & Sun, 9am-5pm)
This is Maryland's state-level concealed carry certification.
Day One (8 hours classroom) - Maryland law and use of force - Revolver and semi-automatic handgun types - Ammunition selection - Firearm disassembly and cleaning - 7 fundamentals of shooting - Cardinal safety rules
Day Two (8 hours range) - Holster selection - Drawing and dry fire drills - Multiple live fire exercises - 50-round qualification course - Certificate issued upon completion
Requires minimum 3 students, maximum 10 per class. If you completed HQL already, bring your handgun and 150 rounds.
$150 as add-on to any course, or $175 standalone
Sundays 3:15pm-5:15pm
This newer course simulates actual home defense and public carry scenarios:
Students complete the course 3+ times for repetition. Minimum 3 real-world scenario walkthroughs. No live ammunition until you safely negotiate the course with training rounds.
Required: Prior firearms training (HQL, concealed carry, NRA basic pistol, military, or LEO experience).
Women's HQL - $100, Saturdays 10am-2pm
Youth Firearms Training - $75, Saturdays 10am-2pm or Sundays 9am-1pm

$175 for MD and DC permit renewals (Sat or Sun, call to schedule)
Every Saturday at their Prince Frederick location. Required for Maryland permit applications.
