The Maryland Handgun Qualification License (HQL) is mandatory before buying or carrying a handgun in Maryland. MSP's 18-hour course spans two full days (8am-5pm each day) and covers:

Do I need to own a firearm? No. You can bring your own or train with provided firearms.
Is there an age limit? No. Minors (under 18) require a parent or guardian to accompany them.
Are classes suitable for beginners? Yes. Most courses require zero prior experience. Any advanced classes with prerequisites will be clearly marked.
What about ammunition? Most courses include ammunition. Advanced classes do not.
Can I reschedule if I can't make my class? Yes—except for advanced courses. Deposits are not required; you pay in full upfront.
Will I get a permit after training? Your certification qualifies you to apply for permits through state agencies. MSP is certified by multiple jurisdictions and can assist with the application process.
