Pretty Shooters Firearms Training

Taniece Reed founded Pretty Shooters Firearms Training to give people—especially women—the knowledge and confidence to take their personal safety seriously. As a licensed Maryland state firearms instructor, she holds certifications that cover the full spectrum of safety training:

• •NRA certifications: Basic Pistol, CCW, Rifle, Eddie Eagle
• •USCCA certifications: CCW, Home Defense, Women's Handgun & Self Defense
• •Specialized training: Chief Range Safety Officer, Glock Armorer, Stop The Bleed, R.A.D., First Aid for Severe Trauma
• •Additional credentials: CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers, Wilderness First Aid, Babysitter Training Instructor

Classes run in the Forestville, Maryland area with shooting qualifications at the local range in Upper Marlboro. All courses include live shooting unless otherwise noted.

• •What's Provided: Pretty Shooters supplies firearms for students (unless bringing your own is approved), 10 rounds for HQL courses and 25 rounds for CCW courses. Bring additional ammo to shoot more. Eye protection and ear protection available. You can bring your own equipment and pay the same price.

You don't need a permit or prior shooting experience to attend. Classes focus on situational awareness, emergency preparedness, and overall personal security—not just trigger technique.

Children ages 6-17 are welcome with a parent/guardian over 21 present to sign the waiver for live shooting. Reed emphasizes: "Never make them scared by forcing them. Let them show you they're ready to learn."

Men are welcome in all coed courses (women-only courses are clearly labeled).

Understanding Maryland's Handgun Qualification License (HQL) and concealed carry process is critical. Here's what Pretty Shooters covers:

Maryland HQL (required to purchase/rent handguns) - Valid for 10 years - Pretty Shooters' Basic Pistol 1 course satisfies this requirement - Processing typically takes 3 weeks after application

Maryland Concealed Carry (WCHP) - Maryland eliminated the "Good and Substantial Reason" requirement - You now need: approved firearms course completion + shooting qualification + fingerprints + passport photo - Permit valid 2 years initially, then 3 years for renewals - Course completion certificate valid for 2 years to submit application

D.C. Concealed Carry - More restrictive than Maryland - Permit valid 2 years and must be renewed - Course completion certificate valid for 1 year only

Multi-State CCW Options - Utah, Florida, Arizona permit classes available - Multi-state permits valid 3-7 years depending on state - Course completion certificates valid 1 year to apply

Slots are very limited. You're responsible for the firing lane and ammunition, but Pretty Shooters can provide targets, eye/ear protection, or even firearms by request. For an additional fee, instructors can bundle everything into an all-inclusive package.

Maryland and D.C. don't recognize each other's permits—or out-of-state permits. If you carry across state lines, you must follow the laws of the state where you're carrying, even if they theoretically honor your permit.

• •Classes are non-refundable once paid
• •One free reschedule if you notify at least 72 hours before class
• •Less than 72 hours notice? Add $25 to reschedule
• •Minimum 5 students per class (if not met, you get credit for next available date within 30 days)
• •No tolerance policy: Anyone intoxicated, disruptive, showing poor attitude, or in mental health crisis will be removed without refund
• •Firearm inspection required: Every gun brought to class must be unloaded and pass a systems check before range time
