Buying a firearm in Washington DC means navigating a complex set of regulations. Realco Guns specializes in making that process clear. They've been in business since 1970 and operate as DC's most accessible gun shop—just south of Silver Hill Road in District Heights, MD, only minutes from the District Line.
Their entire approach centers on DC compliance:
DC uses Maryland's handgun roster—your selected handgun model must appear on it. Rifles and shotguns cannot be on the banned list. All firearms are limited to 10-round magazines or less, and semi-auto "assault" type rifles are prohibited statewide.
"We've been selling firearms since 1972. At Realco Guns you will meet firearms professionals who are sensitive to your needs. We come from military, technical and sporting backgrounds."
| Service | Details |
|---|---|
| Handgun transfers | Processed through G&D LLC ($125 fee) |
| Rifle/shotgun transfers | Handled at Realco, no additional charge |
| DC registration | Includes mandatory fingerprints ($50 DC fee) |
| Online training course | Required for all DC purchasers |
| Accessory kits | $100 package: transport case, cleaning kit, eye/ear protection, 1-year NRA membership |
| Used firearms | One-year warranty on all used guns |
Processing time for both handguns and long guns is typically 2 weeks. Military personnel stationed at Bolling Air Force Base can purchase with orders, military ID, and home state driver's license.
You'll need a valid DC photo ID with no unpaid fines, suspensions, or address changes. If your address changed, bring a change of address card from the MVA. Non-citizens must bring their immigration card.
Carry permits (CCW) are now readily available through DC Metropolitan Police without arbitrary denial—you just need your gun's serial number to apply.
