Spartan Firearms Training Group was founded in 2016 to give Maryland citizens legal pathways to exercise their Second Amendment rights. Their instructors include Army Green Berets, Army Rangers, Joint Special Operations Command veterans, Naval Special Warfare operators, police SWAT officers, and retired Maryland State Police—plus firearms experts without military backgrounds.
Required State Certifications: - Maryland HQL (Handgun Qualification License) - 4 hours of instruction with one live-fire shot. Valid for 10 years; renewable online without additional training. - Maryland Wear and Carry Permit - 16 hours including a full day of live-fire training. Initial permit good for 2 years; renewals require 8 hours of training every 3 years. - Utah and Washington, DC Concealed Carry - Certified training meets out-of-state permit requirements.
Specialized Courses: - Intermediate Tactical Pistol & Carbine - Long-Range Precision Shooting - Gunfighter Concealed Carry - Home Defense - Emergency Casualty Care Course (ECCC) - One-on-one personalized training for new shooters - Custom group and private instruction
Their Maryland State Police-approved training includes firearm safety rules, state and federal laws, use of force doctrine, de-escalation techniques, handgun mechanics, safe storage, suicide prevention, and hands-on live-fire exercises. The ECCC course goes further—covering trauma assessment, hemorrhage control with tourniquets, airway management, and includes a pre-packaged IFAK.
Recognized Credentials: C-TECC (Committee for Tactical Emergency Casualty Care) certification; curricula approved by Maryland State Police, DC Metropolitan Police, and Utah's Bureau of Criminal Identification.
