MASS Home Firearms Training eliminates the logistics hassle. Instead of traveling to a classroom, their NRA and Commonwealth of Massachusetts certified instructors bring all materials and equipment to your home or business. This approach means you get professional firearms education in a comfortable, convenient setting.
They offer five main courses:
NRA Home Firearms Safety (6 hours) Focuses on safe handling and storage of revolvers, semi-automatic pistols, shotguns, and rifles. No live fire—this is classroom and practical exercises only. You'll learn ammunition types, loading/unloading procedures, maintenance, and storage best practices. Includes a written test. Qualifies for Massachusetts LTC and FID applications.
NRA Basics of Pistol Shooting (8 hours) Hands-on course covering pistol actions, ammunition identification, shooting fundamentals (aiming, hold control, breath control, trigger control, follow-through), and Massachusetts gun law specifics. Includes range time where you demonstrate qualifying groups. Also qualifies for LTC/FID licenses.
Utah Non-Resident Concealed Weapons Permit Course Classroom-only instruction following Utah's state-mandated training outline. No live fire required. Covers handgun safety, parts and operation, ammunition, shooting positions, firearms maintenance, concealment, and Utah law. Upon completion, you receive a signed instructor application to submit to Utah with your $63.25 fee. Valid in 36 states across the country.
NRA Refuse To Be A Victim Seminar (4 hours) Personal safety strategy course designed to help you and your family recognize and avoid dangerous situations. Law enforcement agencies nationwide use this curriculum for crime prevention.
SABRE Red Civilian Safety Awareness Program (4 hours) Pepper spray training covering deployment, verbal commands, post-deployment protocols, and basic self-defense techniques. Also offered as a college-specific version tailored to campus life and student safety concerns—a portion of college course fees benefits RAINN.
NRA Range Safety Officer (9 hours) Develops certified RSOs with knowledge of range operations, standard operating procedures, emergency protocols, and malfunction clearing. For those interested in range supervision and management.
Both the Home Firearms Safety and NRA Basics of Pistol Shooting courses satisfy Massachusetts General Law C.140 §131P requirements for basic firearms safety certificates needed to apply for LTC (License to Carry) or FID (Firearms ID) cards.
You must be 21+ for LTC applications (handguns, rifles, shotguns). FID cards require you be 18+ in Massachusetts or 15+ with parental permission (rifles and shotguns only, limited ammunition capacity).
Upon course completion, you receive both an NRA Certificate and Massachusetts State Police Basic Firearm Safety (BFS) Certificate on the spot from your instructor. These credentials qualify you to apply for state licenses immediately.
They emphasize the three core principles: confident, safe, and responsible firearm handling. Every course grounds itself in the fundamental NRA safety rules: keep the gun pointed in a safe direction, keep your finger off the trigger until ready to shoot, and keep the gun unloaded until ready to use. Advanced topics include ammunition malfunction identification (misfire, hang fire, squib load), proper storage, and state-specific legal considerations.
