Western Massachusetts Training & Education Academy

Western Massachusetts Training & Education Academy, run by Lee Laster in Millers Falls, teaches firearms safety, marksmanship, and self-defense from a law enforcement perspective. Laster spent 23 years as a Staff Sergeant with the Montague Police Department before retiring medically in 2021. Now he applies that experience to civilian training.

Laster is a US Marine Corps veteran (honorably discharged) who served in law enforcement starting in 1998. His certifications include:

He currently teaches College and Career Awareness at Franklin County Technical School alongside running his training academy.

Firearms Training Classes (USCCA Curriculum)

Specialized Programs

• •Youth Firearm Safety Course (ages 5-16): FREE. Covers proper storage, gun recognition, and what to do if you find a firearm.
• •Youth Safe Handling and Familiarity: Cleaning, parts identification, and confidence-building.
• •Youth FID Class (ages 15-18): $40 (discounted).
• •Women's Intro to Firearms Basics: 2 hours, $35. Focuses on handling, loading, unloading, cleaning, and intro marksmanship.
• •Senior Firearm Safety and Handling Refresher (65+): FREE. 2 hours covering essential skills and safety protocols.
• •Couples Package (NEW): $500 full price, currently 50% off. Includes LTC class (4 hours), Legal Use of Force (4 hours), and 1 hour simulator scenarios.
• •Out-of-Stater LTC Program (NEW): Step-by-step guidance for out-of-state applicants, Legal Use of Force session, and 1 hour hands-on simulator training.

Non-Firearm Self-Defense (Physical)

• •Self-Defense Level 1: 3 hours, $75. Basic techniques, stance, movement, striking, escapes. Max 6 people.
• •Self-Defense Level 2: 3 hours, $75. Intermediate techniques, ground fighting, submissions. Requires Level 1.
• •Self-Defense Level 3: 3 hours, $75. Advanced techniques plus less-lethal weapons integration. Requires Level 2.

The academy uses a state-of-the-art firearm simulator system (TI Enterprises) for scenario-based training and stress-induced shooting. They have access to multiple ranges including outdoor facilities. Kids under 12 receive 30 minutes free on the simulator.

They specifically offer personalized marksmanship and firearms instruction on an individual basis. This eliminates large-class anxiety, allows customized focus on problem areas, and provides more instructor-student time. No group stress, no feeling rushed.
