Applied Training Solutions (ATS) was built to solve a real problem: ammunition costs were skyrocketing in 2021, training opportunities dried up, and defensive firearms skills get worse without regular practice. Jason Bennett and Kevin Blaser created ATS to give Michigan residents an affordable way to maintain competence between live fire sessions using digital simulators.
"Firearm self-defense skills are perishable and without regular training your level of competence falls." - ATS founders
Today, ATS operates the most advanced digital firearms training center in the Midwest. Located inside Midland Mall at 6800 Eastman Ave, Suite 304, their facility combines LaserAmmo's Smokeless Range laser simulation technology with a private outdoor live fire range.
Their core service is one-day Michigan Concealed Pistol License training ($120). The 8-hour curriculum covers:
All materials provided: training firearms, ammunition, eye and ear protection, and course materials are included. Classes start with 4 hours of academic instruction and laser range simulation, then transition to outdoor live fire qualification. Small class sizes ensure maximum instructor interaction.
For license renewals, they offer a one-day class ($60) that meets Michigan renewal requirements with the same combination of classroom and live fire instruction.
ATS personnel have significant military experience and design customized training programs for shooters at all levels—novice to professional law enforcement. They develop science-based curriculum drills and lessons not widely available elsewhere in the region.
Their facility inside Midland Mall features:
Training by appointment only. Store and class hours vary. Email [email protected] or call 989-220-1462 to schedule.
All ATS instructors hold either USCCA (United States Concealed Carry Association) or NRA certification. The team leverages combat experience and military training techniques adapted for civilian self-defense scenarios. Their motto: "Forward Thinking, On Target Training."
Their retail shop carries:

ATS solved the ammunition scarcity problem by pioneering affordable digital training. During 2021-2022, when ammo prices hit historic highs, most shooters couldn't afford frequent range trips. With the Smokeless Range laser system, students develop trigger control, sight picture, and fundamentals at negligible cost, then validate those skills on live fire once per session. This approach keeps skills sharp without breaking the bank.
If you're considering concealed carry in Michigan, ATS handles everything in one day. You walk out with CPL-compliant live fire qualification, legal knowledge, and actual trigger time. No shopping around for multiple instructors or ranges. Their appointment-based model means minimal waiting and focused instruction.
With combat-experienced, certified instructors and the latest laser training technology, ATS has positioned itself as the serious option for defensive firearms training in the Great Lakes Bay Region.
