Location details and information

Howell Gun Club is a member-driven shooting facility in Howell, Michigan offering pistol, rifle, shotgun, and archery ranges. The club operates multiple disciplines throughout the week—trap and 5-stand on Wednesdays and Sundays, USPSA/IPSC in action bays, archery leagues, and dedicated rifle ranges from 25 to 500 yards.

Membership runs March 1st through February 28th. Regular membership costs $175/year ($150 for seniors 62+). New members pay a $10 non-refundable application fee, attend orientation, then complete a one-year probationary period with 8 hours of volunteer work (or $175 buy-out option). Members gain 24/7 access to the indoor pistol range with just an RFID card—no staff on site required.

  • Family membership includes your spouse and children under 18 living in your household. If you hold a current CPL (Concealed Pistol License), you skip the two-sponsor requirement during application.

Two separate 50-foot pistol ranges serve different needs:

  • Indoor Range — Open 24/7 to members (24/7 badge access after orientation). $3 per visit, targets included. Handles most handgun calibers, .22 rifle, and pistol-caliber carbines. Covered stalls, ventilation system, retrievable targets. Guests pay $5/day as Limited Members For the Day (LMFD). Children under 10 must be supervised by a parent; minors shoot free on the same lane.
  • Outdoor Range — Covered shooting stations, 50-yard retrieval system plus steel targets to 55 yards. Open 9am–9pm (or dusk) seven days a week. Members and up to three LMFD guests use it for free; guests pay $5/day.

Two dedicated rifle ranges:

  • 100-Yard Range — Covered stations, 25-yard sight-in station, paper targets only. No fees for members.
  • 500-Yard Range — 8 shooting stations with targets at 100, 200, 300, and 500 yards. Steel, paper, and electronic targets allowed. Requires a live-fire proficiency test before first use. Electronic target system requires additional training. One guest/spectator only; guests pay $5/day.

Both ranges operate 9am–9pm. If others are waiting, limit your time to 45 minutes.

  • Trap — Two ATA regulation fields with voice-activated speakers and Pat Traps that throw singles, wobbles, and doubles. Open Sundays 12pm–6pm and Wednesdays 5pm–9pm.
  • 5-Stand — Open daily during regular shooting hours (9am–9pm or dusk). Available to members every day; certification required. Trap Director Jamie Stilianos certifies members on Sundays and Wednesdays.

Costs: - $5 per line (25 clays) for members - $6 per line for non-members - $3 per line for youth under 18 - $0.10 per clay for clay stakes, individual thrower, and 5-stand
