Lake Linden-Hubbell Sportsmen's Association operates four distinct shooting ranges serving the Keweenaw Peninsula community in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. The club has been supporting hunters, sport shooters, and outdoor enthusiasts for generations through structured ranges, hunter education programs, and community events.
The covered rifle range includes bench rests and permanent target boards at 5, 50, 100, 150, and 200-yard distances. A dedicated handgun target area is also available. The range features sand berm backgrounds for safe bullet containment.
What's provided: - Sandbags for rifle rests (return before leaving) - Paper targets available on-site - Push pins for target mounting (bring your own staple gun) - Covered shooting stations with benches
Access & Rules: - Open to members Monday & Thursday nights only - Sign in and pay range fee at the equipment house before shooting - Controlled fire only (no rapid fire) with projectiles hitting lower 1/3 of berms - Paper or cardboard targets on provided boards only - No steel targets, exploding targets, or items like beverage containers - Full-auto firearms, 50 BMG, and binary triggers are prohibited - Shotguns no longer permitted on rifle range
Members coordinate "Range Safe" and "Range Hot" status. When the range goes safe, all firearms must be unloaded with actions open and empty chamber indicators installed—no firearm handling allowed during this time.
A dedicated pistol range with 50-foot targets operates inside the main building alongside the rifle range. Both ranges operate on simultaneous "Hot" and "Safe" status when multiple shooters are present.
Seasonal trap shooting runs Thursday evenings at 6:00 PM from early April through late October. The club typically runs informal trap team shooting competitions.
Trap Range Requirements: - Shot size limited to 7-1/2 or smaller (no 6, 4, 2, BB, or buckshot) - Use only LL-HSA provided throwers - Shotguns must be placed in provided racks when not in use - Load only 2 shells maximum at a time - Unload before leaving the station - Pick up shot shell hulls for reloading or disposal
The archery range enforces strict equipment maintenance standards: - All arrows must impact provided targets or backstop - Inspect equipment for damage before each use - Check arrows for cracks, loose vanes, bent shafts, or broken nocks - Match arrows to shooter's draw length and spine - Never dry fire bows - Use proper gear including arm guards and finger tabs - Broadhead arrows prohibited for basic training
