Alpha Training & Tactics is run by Steve Marquardt, a retired law enforcement officer with 32 years in service, including roles as Patrol Supervisor, SWAT Team Leader, and SWAT Commander. He received the 2013 Minnesota Special Operations and Training Association "Lifetime Achievement Award" and brings that level of expertise directly into civilian and law enforcement training programs.

Alpha offers a clear progression for civilian shooters:
Minnesota Permit to Carry (6 hours, $100-$150 depending on season) - Meets all Minnesota Department of Public Safety requirements - Valid in 25 states - Classroom and range instruction - Handguns from 22 caliber to 45 ACP accepted
Basic Handgun Course - Level I (6 hours, $100) - Designed for minimal or no handgun experience - Covers revolver and semi-auto operation, safety, holster selection, home security - Reviews Minnesota state statutes on weapons and use of force - Small class sizes for individual attention
Advance Handgun Course - Level II (6 hours, $150) - Prerequisites: Basic Handgun certificate or current Permit to Carry - 250 rounds required - Covers holster work, reloading drills, movement, barricade exercises, multiple positions, close quarter drills, human anatomy targeting
Tactical Handgun Application & Home Defense - Level III (6 hours, $150) - Prerequisites: Completion of Basic and/or Advance Handgun - 350 rounds required - Multiple threat engagement, low-light and no-light shooting, support-side operations, tactical reloading, movement drills
Civilian AR Essentials (5 hours, $100) - Takes you from zero to properly operating an AR platform rifle - Covers nomenclature, breakdown and maintenance, dry fire drills, malfunction response - Multiple threat targets, barricade work, CQB application - Can be conducted indoors with 22 caliber conversion or outdoors with 5.56/223 - Class includes transition drills to handgun
Women's Basic Handgun Familiarization & Development (5 hours, $100) - Alpha provides handguns and ammunition—no prior ownership required - Same comprehensive fundamentals as civilian basic courses - Small class sizes for personalized instruction - Can bring your own firearm if preferred

Minnesota Department of Public Safety & Bureau of Criminal Apprehension Approved Instructor - All Permit to Carry courses meet state requirements under Minnesota State Statute 624.714
Alpha arranges private lessons, couples' training, team-building range days, and co-worker group sessions. They provide range coordination, instructors, targets, and training equipment—contact them to discuss dates and customized curriculum.
