Schelonka's Concealed Carry specializes in concealed carry training across North Dakota, Minnesota, and Wisconsin. Their permit-to-carry class is a one-day course that fulfills the state training requirement for getting your permit. The curriculum covers firearm parts, ammunition, safety, safe handling, cleaning and storage, shooting fundamentals, and introduction to defensive shooting with live fire.

The class also includes information on concealed carry law, restricted use of deadly force, and techniques for avoiding and controlling violent confrontations—plus the psychological aftermath of a defensive shooting. Firearms are provided, so you don't need to bring your own.

These are the only tactical courses of their kind in the area:

• •Course I: Tactical Self-Defense Shooting Techniques ($175) — Four hours of hands-on drills focusing on presenting from concealment, utilizing cover and movement, point shooting, engaging multiple targets, and one-handed shooting. You'll run through 50+ drills and fire 500-600 rounds.

• •Course II: Flashlight Tactical Techniques ($225) — Expands on Course I drills using four different flashlight shooting techniques. Experience the same drills in low-light conditions.

• •Course III: Advanced Tactical Self-Defense Shooting Techniques ($275) — High-level drills including shooting and reloading while moving, clearing rooms, and shooting from floor positions. Actual scenarios are enacted.

Personal Self Defense (two hours) — Taught by Dennis Schelonka and his daughter Kim Erickson. Dennis covers levels of awareness, practical situation avoidance, and alternative weapons. Kim brings 10 years of Uechi Ryu karate training (black belt at 16) and demonstrates tactical defensive techniques for dangerous situations.
