Coffman personally shoots and patterns every gun before delivery. He doesn't rush the work—detailed metalwork, fine-tuning, and cosmetic details take time. He provides periodic updates throughout the build process.
Coffman explains the economics: A purpose-built custom shotgun costs $8,000+ from major manufacturers. BRP's custom builds deliver:
1. Reliability - Every component (triggers, extractors, bolts, springs) functions flawlessly 2. Accuracy - Optimized for tight choke systems and modern TSS ammunition 3. Proper sighting system - Matched to your skill level and hunting needs 4. Right gauge - Built in your preferred gauge with all required features 5. Professional testing - Multiple choke/shell/load combinations tested for your specific gun 6. Pride of ownership - A firearm built just for you 7. Value over 25 years - Works out to roughly $6.50 per hunt if you use it 15 mornings each spring
BRP is a Class II manufacturer of NFA items including suppressors, short-barreled shotguns, and short-barreled rifles. NFA transfers cost $125. Coffman walks customers through the legal ownership process.
Have an old 870 or 1187 lying around? BRP can customize it. The gun must pass initial inspection, then the build process begins—saving money compared to starting from new.

"I build each gun one at a time with the hunter in mind. I will deliver a functional, reliable, accurate, and good looking firearm to meet your needs." — Vic Coffman, Owner
Coffman started turkey hunting at age 10 in Southwest Alabama. His passion for wild turkey hunting combined with formal training as a weapons armorer led to founding Black River Precision in 2015. The Pure Poison Custom Turkey Gun evolved directly from his two decades of hunting experience and technical gunsmithing knowledge.
