Devil's Backbone Wilderness Outfitters operates across a long, narrow mountain ridge that early settlers called Devil's Backbone. The property sits at the heart of Missouri deer and turkey country, characterized by rugged topography, springs, and the North Fork River. The outfitters have spent generations hunting and guiding this specific terrain.
Bow and rifle hunts run 5 days. Muzzleloader hunts are 3 days (week one) or 5 days (week two).
Pricing by Season: - Early Season (mid-September to mid-October): $750 for 3-day hunt - Pre-Rut: $1,050 for 3-day hunt - Rut: $1,500 for 3-day hunt - After Rut: $1,050 for 3-day hunt
All hunts include a guide and stand. Trophy fee applies. Minimum score is 130" B&C (4 points per side); scores below 130" incur a $500 fine. Tag limit is 2 deer. A 50% deposit secures your dates.
Active military receive 10% discount on all hunts. Dates fill quickly.
All turkey packages are 3-day hunts with lodging and meals included. Fall hunts run September 15 to January 15 (archery and firearms). Spring season begins the 3rd Monday in April.
Spring Tag Limits: - 1st week: 1 eastern turkey - 2nd & 3rd weeks: 2 eastern turkey
The property features maintained mineral supplements, wheat, oats, and clovers throughout to enhance record-book buck development. This is working habitat, not just hunting ground.
Joe Hollingshad and his guides bring intimate knowledge of the terrain and game behavior—they're familiar with every hollow, every rock, and every trail.
Devil's Backbone has been featured in Fishing & Hunting Journal, Field & Stream (multiple times), and the Field & Stream Legends 100th Anniversary TV show. Joe was the only turkey guide selected for that Field & Stream series.
