Ultimate Defense Firing Range & Training Center sits at the intersection of Highway 70 and Highway 79 in St. Peters, Missouri—easy access from anywhere in the St. Louis region. The facility features 18 shooting lanes divided into three separate bays, each equipped with state-of-the-art air filtration and ventilation systems. Targets move electronically up and down the range via overhead cable system. Bay 1 and 2 are 25 yards long for distance work. Bay 3 is 7 yards for close quarters training.

Beyond the range, they stock a complete line of firearms and accessories including ammunition, eye and ear protection, sights, holsters, and magazines. Staff takes time to help you choose gear that fits both your comfort level and confidence.

This is where Ultimate Defense stands out. Their instructors are active duty SWAT officers and law enforcement firearms experts. Classes range from beginner to advanced:

• •First Steps – Basic Handgun ($69, 3 hours) is for people with little or no firearm experience. Covers safety, marksmanship fundamentals, and firearm function. Ammo and equipment provided. Classes run Monday evenings.

• •Concealed Carry Permit ($99, 8 hours) combines interactive lecture with 50 rounds of live fire at 7 yards. Missouri's permit is recognized in 36 other states. Saturday courses scheduled regularly. Optional: rent a firearm, ammo, and eye/ear protection for an additional $30.

• •Defensive Handgun 1 ($200, 7 hours) taught by active SWAT officers covers tactical reloading, clearing malfunctions, proper draw, shooting positions, vertical tracking, trigger reset, use of cover, and weapon-hand/support-hand firing drills. You'll shoot 300 rounds and learn to perform under stress.

• •Defensive Handgun 2 ($200, 7 hours) assumes you've completed DH1. This course focuses on surviving armed confrontation with current SWAT tactics, mental preparation, and physical readiness for self-defense combat. Prerequisite required.

• •Defensive Handgun 3 – Low Light ($95, 4 hours) takes DH1 and DH2 skills into darkened environments where most violent encounters occur. Covers anatomy of night vision, shooting in ambient light, various flashlight grips, weapon-mounted lights, and reaction drills. 250 rounds of ammunition required.

• •Defensive Rifle ($200, 2 evenings, 3 hours each) covers AR-15 variants and other platforms. Instruction includes loading/unloading, operating functions, fundamentals, and proficiency drills. Requires 250 rounds of rifle ammunition, sling, iron sights or optic, and three magazines.
