Location details and information

Alliance Rifle Club was organized shortly after WWII and has been NRA-affiliated since May 26, 1949. What started as a community shooting club has evolved into one of the region's primary hosts for competitive rifle matches and shooting events.

Hoffland Range opened in 1985 and sits about two miles east of Alliance. This is the club's primary match facility, featuring a 1000-yard pit with covered firing line. The range is named after a town that once occupied the area. In 2008, the trees planted there were dedicated as the Erv Huber Memorial Forest to honor his decades of work maintaining the property.

Glen Fiebig Range was built from scratch. The club purchased 27.44 acres of land in May 2007 and opened the range to members in July of that year. Named to honor Glen Fiebig's contributions to the club, this range is designed for practice, sighting in, and shooting out to 200 yards. Recent upgrades include rebuilt berms at 25, 50, and 100 yards with all benches usable to 200 yards.

Both ranges sit east of Alliance on Highway 2 in Box Butte County.

The club hosts multiple matches throughout the year:

The Alliance Rifle Club Gun Show runs annually (February 14–15, 2026) at the Eagles Club, 1502 West 3rd St., Alliance. Vendors, shooters, and the public gather for firearms, parts, ammo, and shooting gear. Guy and Vicki Hielscher coordinate show operations: 308-762-4318 or [email protected].

All members must be NRA-affiliated. The club approves memberships monthly at board meetings. Membership forms are available for download and can be dropped off at Ackerman AG Services, 703 West 3rd St., Alliance. Contact Missy Lickliter (308-760-2969) for membership questions.

Members receive discounts on Air Link air medical services through Med-Trans Corporation.

The club holds monthly meetings the first Monday of each month at 7:30 PM at Ackerman AG Services and Supply, 115 Cody Avenue, Alliance. The annual meeting (January) handles officer elections and major business items. Meetings are open to members and follow Roberts Rules of Order.

The club operates under a formal constitution (last amended January 2019) with a president, vice president, secretary, treasurer, executive committee, and board of trustees. Leadership includes:

  • •President: James Patrick (308-760-5851)
  • •Vice President: Jack Mattox
  • •Secretary: Vicki Hielscher (308-762-4318)
  • •Treasurer: Bob Engelhaupt (308-762-1299)
  • •Range Managers: Jack Mattox and Dave Covey (Fiebig); Jim Bourn (308-760-4842) and Joe Lickliter (308-760-4244) (Hoffland)

Alliance Rifle Club fills a specific role in the Nebraska Panhandle: they provide maintained outdoor ranges for practice and precision shooting, host serious competitive matches that attract regional competitors, and maintain a 1000-yard facility for long-range work. Unlike commercial ranges focused on throughput, ARC's mission is supporting the shooting sports community with infrastructure and events.
