Devin McManus founded Black Dog Firearms Training in January 2022, but her training background goes back years. A 2012 event in NYC sparked her own journey into self-defense—MMA classes, defensive pistol, then competitive shooting. After years competing and training, she realized her real passion: helping new shooters and people just entering the gun community build solid foundations. That's what the business does now.

The core principle here is simple: weak fundamentals break everything that comes after. Black Dog keeps class sizes small specifically so instructors can give hands-on, one-on-one time. They listen to why you're training and tune the class to your actual goals, not a generic curriculum.

Handgun Fundamentals covers safety rules first, then shooting basics, how different handguns operate, ammunition, loading/clearing, malfunction drills, holster work, and gear selection across a 4-class progression.

Competitive Shooting Intro is co-ed and teaches you different disciplines (Steel Challenge, USPSA, etc.) without the intimidation factor. The 102 level? You actually attend a real match with a coach alongside you.

Private Classes are customizable—specific skills, your schedule, one-on-one or small groups. Co-ed.
