Full description and what we offer
RAB Firearms Training and Consulting is run by Rich Bruno, a full-time New Jersey police officer since 2007 and certified Law Enforcement Firearms Instructor. He spent 8 years on a Regional SWAT Team as primary assault team member, Firearms Instructor, and CQB Instructor. That background shows in how the training is structured.
They offer a progression of classes that actually make sense:
Handgun Training - Intro to Handgun (4 hours) - New shooters learn grip, sight picture, trigger control, firearm safety, and NJ law. You'll shoot live rounds and handle weapon maintenance. Requires 200 rounds of ammo and 2 magazines. - Intermediate Handgun (4 hours) - Students with basic skills learn drawing from holster, reloads, moving while shooting, malfunction drills, and recoil management. Needs 300 rounds and 3 magazines. - Performance Pistol (4 hours) - Advanced work on marksmanship, speed, vision, and shooting from holster while moving. This one burns 600 rounds and is not for new shooters. Note: No SERPA holsters allowed.
Rifle Training - Intro to Rifle (4 hours) - Built for AR-15/M4 platform owners with zero rifle experience. Covers weapons operation, sights (red dot and iron), safety, and your rifle gets zeroed by the end so you can train solo. - Intermediate Rifle (4 hours) - For shooters ready to move beyond basics. Covers kneeling and prone positions, mechanical offsets, malfunctions, moving and shooting, and zero procedures. Bring 500 rounds.
Licensing & Security - NJ Permit to Carry Class - Required for concealed carry in New Jersey. - Police Academy Recruit Prep - Specialized training for people entering law enforcement. - Residential Security Assessments - They'll evaluate your home layout, current security setup, and recommend urgent fixes plus optional enhancements.
Rich Bruno holds active certifications as a Firearms Instructor, Rifle Instructor, Pistol Red Dot Instructor, Active Shooter/Critical Response Instructor, Defensive Tactics Instructor, and more. He's also a certified Smith & Wesson M&P Armorer and Colt M16/M4 Armorer.
The instructors describe themselves as "patient, personable, understanding, and treat every student as family."
If scheduled classes don't fit your timeline, you can request private instruction on any topic.
Check their class schedule for availability. Classes require appropriate ammo, ear/eye protection, magazines, and specific gear listed for each course level.
