Full description and what we offer
Navajo Outdoors operates from Kirtland and Shiprock, New Mexico, offering guided hunts across exclusive Navajo Nation territories in New Mexico, Arizona, and Utah. Founded by lifetime residents and seasoned hunters, the outfitter combines traditional hunting knowledge with access to some of the Southwest's most productive hunting grounds.
Waterfowl hunting takes place in Northwest New Mexico along the San Juan River, where agricultural operations (corn, hay, beans, wheat) create prime waterfowl habitat. They run three distinct approaches:
Game care not included but can be arranged. For corporate clients and last-minute out-of-town hunters, they'll arrange hotel pickup and provide gun rentals.
Elk hunts span September-January across reservation-wide units. The terrain shifts seasonally from high-elevation mountains (ponderosa pine, oak brush, aspen) to lower cedar and sage flats. Standard approach: reach vantage points, glass for bulls, execute spot-and-stalk tactics.
Hunt options: - Auction Tag Hunts (5-day, guide-only): Trophy Bulls 370" and up, some exceeding 400". Exclusive Trophy Units with strict access and limited tags. - 7-Day Trophy Draw Tags: Access to units 1-8, 11-14, and 16A Trophy Units. Pre-season scouting provides client advantage. - Trophy Elk Muzzleloader: October 1-15 and January 1-February 15 - Archery Trophy Elk: Draw-based specialty tags
Hotel accommodations include on-site restaurant, located in heart of Trophy Hunt Units (short daily drives to fields). Extra spotters and pre-hunt scouting packages available for targeting specific bulls.
Black Bear, Mountain Lion, Desert Bighorn Sheep, Antelope, and Turkey hunts also offered. Desert Bighorn Sheep hunts take place along the Colorado River and San Juan River in Lake Powell Unit 6 (September 1-December 31).
