Full description and what we offer
NM-CCW is run by Steve Aikens, an NRA Certified, New Mexico Approved Instructor and NRA Training Counselor—the credential that certifies other instructors to teach firearms courses. Located in Clovis, the operation focuses entirely on concealed carry license training and requalification under New Mexico law.
Classes are a minimum of 16 hours and held in the South Classroom of the New Mexico National Guard Armory at 601 South Norris Street, Clovis. Class runs from 7:55 AM to 6 PM (exact end time depends on student participation). Coffee, donuts, and water are provided.
The 16-hour course covers: - Sight picture, sight alignment, grip, stance, breath control - Handgun safety (before any live fire) - Qualification with semi-auto and/or revolver categories - Computer-generated applications and NM DPS paperwork - Fingerprint cards and instructions - Copy of NM statute and Administrative Code - Notarized Certificate of Completion (accepted by other states) - State-approved Certificate of Completion for NM DPS submission
Classes use a 190 PMTS Firearms Training Simulator in the classroom to eliminate fundamental issues—sight picture, grip, stance, trigger control—before moving to live fire at the range.
Courses are designed for beginning shooters to experienced shooters. If you don't know anything about guns yet, that's fine—the simulator and instruction handle it. Your instructor is an NRA Training Counselor, so the teaching standard is high.
Applicants must be: - U.S. citizen and New Mexico resident - At least 21 years old - No felony convictions - No domestic violence convictions - Other misdemeanor violence or substance abuse convictions more than 10 years old do not disqualify - Must read, write, and speak English fluently
CHL licenses are valid for 4 years from date of issue.

Pre-payment required 48 hours before class start. Payment accepted: credit card, PayPal, or cash/check at R&S Gun Shop or Crosshair Gun Shop in Clovis.
The course meets training requirements for New Mexico CHL and also satisfies requirements for non-resident licenses in states with reciprocal agreements. As of 2009, holding both a NM CHL and Florida Concealed Weapons License authorized carry in 34 states. (Note: reciprocal agreements change over time.)
The instructor provides applications for Florida and other states upon request.
NM law requires a 2-hour requalification (refresher) 22-26 months after original or renewed license issue. The requalification is a demonstration of safety and proficiency with your handgun. The instructor certifies to DPS that you've met the range qualification requirement.
All New Mexico certified police officers, gun shop owners, state senators and representatives are welcome at any regularly scheduled CHL course at no charge. Credentials and pre-registration required.
Qualified military (active, reserve, Guard, veteran, or retired) and NM Mounted Patrol members can apply for CHL with no state fee—only the $8.30 Cogent fingerprint fee—under NM House Bill 431.
