Brugman Outfitting Service operates under permits from the USDA Forest Service, Bureau of Land Management, and New Mexico Game & Fish. Owner Steve Brugman has hunted and lived in southeastern New Mexico for over 25 years—that's the foundation everything here is built on. He doesn't hire inexperienced guides. Every guide knows the country and the game.
The outfitter works with a limited number of hunters annually to deliver personalized hunts matched to your budget and abilities. References available upon request.
Big Game Draw Hunts (through New Mexico state allocation to outfitters): - Elk — Units 34 and 36, quality-designated hunts. 85% success rate, nearly 100% on shot opportunity, opportunity for 300+ class bulls. Archery, rifle, or muzzleloader. 5-6 day hunts. - Mule Deer — Around 65% harvest success, 90% shot opportunity on bucks in the 120-180 class. Multiple seasons and weapon options. Late season archery hunt hits the rut in January. - Antelope — 100% draw success for archery to date with ~50% harvest rate. Rifle season runs ~70% draw success with 100% harvest success to date. Unit 29 has potential for Boone & Crockett class animals. - Aoudad/Barbary Sheep — February hunts, 100% draw success in outfitter pool, 85% harvest success, 100% shot opportunity. Five-day hunts in challenging country. - Oryx (Gemsbok) — Once-in-a-lifetime White Sands Missile Range hunts plus off-range opportunities. New outfitter pool significantly improves draw odds. Undefeated success record on Oryx hunts.
Upland Game: - Quail — Scaled/blue quail, Gambels, and Mearns quail over pointing dogs. Mid-November through mid-February. Hunts over the BLM, Forest Service, and state land across millions of acres. Brugman scouts continuously spring through summer, tracking rainfall and population. Own dogs provided, yours welcome. Hunts typically 2-day minimum with 7 AM pickup. - Coyote & Predators — Year-round coyote season. Furbearers November 1–March 15. Multiple experienced predator callers. Can be combined with quail hunts. - Dove — Two-person minimum, includes lodging. Half-day morning or evening hunts.
Private Land Options: - Private ranch-only tags for elk, antelope, mule deer, and aoudad available subject to availability on first-come, first-served basis. 50% deposit required.
Draw Application Strategy: New Mexico allocates 10% of public land tags to outfitter-pool applicants. This can increase your draw odds by up to 100% for certain species and units, particularly mule deer, antelope, and Barbary sheep.
Includes guide service, meals, lodging/camping, field transportation from primary hunt area, field retrieval, meat/trophy preparation, and bird cleaning. You provide: travel to primary area, weapons, ammunition, personal gear.

All New Mexico big game applicants must: - Have a signed contract with Brugman Outfitting prior to applying - Purchase a small game license ($65 non-resident, refundable if unsuccessful) - Purchase a game license and stamp package ($9, non-refundable as of 2024) - Pay applicable species license fees (deer $283–$368, elk $555–$773, oryx $1,623, etc.)
If unsuccessful in the draw, license fees are refunded—the $13 state application fee per species is not.
2024–25 Draw Deadline: Passed. Applications typically open mid-January with late March deadline. Contact now for 2025–2026 planning.
