Full description and what we offer
WYOR is Michael R. Grimler's civilian firearms training practice focused on New Mexico Concealed Carry Weapon (CCW) permits and defensive handgun instruction. Grimler's background spans formal law-enforcement education in California—where he served as a POST-certified Level I Reserve Deputy and adjunct firearms instructor—and evolved into a civilian-focused training operation grounded in safety, lawful decision-making, and responsible defensive firearm use.
He does not teach law-enforcement tactics. His instruction is limited to civilian defensive contexts: lawful use of firearms, proportionality in response, de-escalation where appropriate, and risk mitigation. Courses emphasize compliance with state law, sound judgment under stress, and responsible carry practices.
Grimler is an NRA Certified Training Counselor, Certified Concealed Carry Instructor, and Range Safety Officer Instructor—authorized to train candidates in NRA Basic Pistol, Advanced Pistol, Personal Protection Inside the Home, Personal Protection Outside the Home, Concealed Carry, and Home Firearm Safety.

4-Year Renewal Class - 4-hour classroom and shooting session - Must be completed within 60 days before or after permit expiration - Requalification with calibers/categories on your current license - $75 renewal fee to NM DPS (separate from class cost)
2-Year Refresher Class - 2-hour shooting session conducted at the 22–26 month mark of your license - Failure to complete may result in permit suspension and $5 reinstatement fee - Certificate issued and sent to NM DPS within 30 days

Active duty and honorably discharged veterans (within 20 years) are exempt from training course requirements, firearms qualification, and license fees—but must submit DD214 as proof and still pay fingerprinting fees. License valid 5 years. Beyond the 20-year mark, veterans must take and pay for renewal/refresher classes.
NM Mounted Patrol members have the same exemptions as retired law enforcement: no application fee, renewal fee, or training course required if they completed a basic law enforcement academy program. They must submit fingerprints and receive a 5-year license.
Due to COVID protocols (as of the source date), classroom material is presented by Zoom teleconference. Students need internet capability, webcam, and microphone. Shooting the course of fire is scheduled the week following classroom completion via a signup link.
Grimler maintains proficiency through regular firearms practice and participation in fundamentals-focused defensive shooting competitions emphasizing accuracy, safety, and decision-making under stress.
For shooters who hate guns: WYOR's approach is centered on lawful, proportional, responsible use—not gun culture mysticism. Instruction focuses on judgment, de-escalation, and defensive decision-making grounded in reality, not fantasy.
