Full description and what we offer
Able Center for Training was founded in 2020 by retired NYC law enforcement officers. The instructors bring real-world experience from NYPD, including detective work, patrol, narcotics, organized crime control, and specialized units like SOD (Special Operations Division) and anti-crime teams. That background shapes every course they teach.
NYS Concealed Carry - Classroom-based CCW certification taught by NRA-certified and NYS DCJS-certified instructors. This is the permit required to carry in New York State.
NYS CCW Refresher - Required renewal training for existing CCW permit holders.
Utah Concealed Carry - 4-hour classroom course that makes you eligible for a Utah permit. This matters because Utah honors reciprocity agreements with 36 other states, making it one of the most valuable multi-state carry permits available. Course covers handgun safety rules, parts and operation, shooting fundamentals, safe storage, ammunition handling, Utah criminal code, and civil vs. criminal liability. Blank fingerprint card included.
NJ Concealed Carry - Training for New Jersey's complex firearms laws.
HR218 (LEOSA) Training - Specialized instruction for retired law enforcement officers seeking federal carry privileges under the Law Enforcement Officers Safety Act.
New York State requires all security guards to be licensed through an accredited DCJS facility. Able Center offers:
Security guard employment is in high demand. Businesses need trained professionals for asset protection, workplace violence prevention, and facility security.
Ed Lezcano is a retired NYPD officer with 25+ years in law enforcement and private security. He holds certifications in armed guard, NRA pistol instruction, and has trained extensively in narcotics, organized crime, and special operations.

Brian Higgins is a retired NYPD Lieutenant with 25 years of service. He commanded 475 school safety agents and brings expertise in crisis response, leadership, and facility security consulting.
Duane Welliver spent 24 years in NYPD, including 12+ years as a firearms instructor at the Firearms and Tactics Section. He's certified in basic and advanced firearms training, Taser instruction, and fire instruction.
Lauren Hartnett brings EMS and tactical background. She's an FDNY paramedic, NRA instructor, Chief Range Safety Officer, and USPSA Range Officer. She founded Athena Defense and advocates for Second Amendment education.
Kevin Mahoney is an FDNY Lieutenant and former Lead Instructor of the FDNY Counter Terrorism Task Force. He's certified by the NY Department of Health as an Instructor Coordinator and trains in TECC (Tactical Emergency Casualty Care).
