The Oregon State Shooting Association (OSSA) serves as Oregon's central resource for competitive shooting sports, firearms safety, and shooting club coordination. Working in partnership with the Oregon Association of Shooting Ranges (OASR), OSSA connects over 80 member ranges and clubs across Oregon—from the coast to the Blue Mountains.
OSSA sanctions state championships and matches across six primary shooting sports:
The National Bullseye Championships are held annually at Camp Perry, Ohio, with Oregon shooters regularly competing. OSSA also maintains a State Distinguished Awards program recognizing top competitors.
OSSA has launched a comprehensive Safety and Wellness program in partnership with the Oregon Firearms Safety Coalition (OFSC). Key initiatives include:
OSSA's safety mission: Promoting firearms safety handling, secure storage education, child safety programs, and suicide prevention strategies in Oregon communities.
Three Core Goals:
1. Deploy "Safety-Wellness Information Kiosks" in 80% of member clubs with posters, brochures, and educational materials 2. Establish ongoing child safety/education classes in 80% of clubs, training twice the current membership for community outreach 3. Implement New Member Orientation suicide prevention training with videos and presentations
Resources Provided to Clubs: - NSSF/AFSP suicide prevention brochures (free, shipping only) - Suicide hotline wallet cards in English and Spanish - Professional suicide prevention videos - QPR (Question, Persuade, Refer) training—described as "CPR for suicide risk" - Child safety educational materials and "popcorn and movie night" program templates
