Full description and what we offer
The Central Carolina Archery Association connects four active archery clubs across North Carolina: Gooch's Mill Archery Club, Neuse River Bowhunters, Quewhiffle Creek Bowhunters, and Tar River Archery Club. CCAA coordinates 3D archery shoots, maintains competitive standards, and promotes the sport of archery with an emphasis on bowhunting.
CCAA sets the annual tournament schedule (announced by January 1st), establishes uniform tournament rules enforced across all member clubs, tracks scores and shooter rankings, and hosts annual meetings to elect leadership and address competition standards. Each member club hosts 3D point shoots throughout the year.
To qualify for Shooter of the Year awards, you must shoot at least 2 events at each member club.
CCAA offers 20+ competitive classes ranging from youth programs (Jr. Cubs ages 8 and under through Cubs and Youth) to senior divisions and professional money classes.
Money Classes (Pro and K50) shoot from 50-yard orange stakes with full equipment allowed—any sight, magnifying lenses, stabilizers up to 290 fps arrow speed.
Open Classes (Men's Open, K45, Women's Open) shoot from white or blue stakes (45 or 30 yards) with magnifying lenses and rangefinders allowed in some divisions.
Bowhunter Classes (Pro and Novice) simulate hunting conditions with equipment restrictions: - Max 15" stabilizer (front only for Novice) - No magnifying lenses - Sight extension limited to 6" past bow riser - 290 fps arrow speed limit - Novice requires screw-in points only, no arrows larger than 23 series
Specialty Classes include Crossbow (up to 390 fps, scopes to 6x power allowed), Traditional (recurve/longbow, no sights, single 12" stabilizer), Barebow Recurve (World Archery rules), and Youth Traditional.
New for 2024: Super Senior class (65+, blue stake 30 yards max, unknown distance) and Women's Bow Novice (yellow stake, unknown distance, no lens/rangefinder, max 15" front stabilizer).
| Class | Stake Distance | Key Equipment Rules |
|---|---|---|
| Pro/K50 | 50 yards (orange) | Any sight, lenses, stabilizers allowed |
| Bowhunter Pro | 40 yards (blue) | No lenses, max 15" stabilizer, any arrow |
| Bowhunter Novice | 30 yards (blue) | No lenses, max 15" stabilizer, screw-in points only |

| Youth (13-14) | 25 yards (yellow) | Known distance, 240 fps limit, any sight/lenses |
| Cubs (9-12) | 15 yards (green) | Known distance, 240 fps limit, any sight/lenses |
| Jr. Cubs (8 and under) | Any comfortable distance | Any sight/lenses, 240 fps limit, all receive trophies |
Entry Fees (CCAA Regular Shoots): - Pro/K50: $30 - 15+: $20 - 9-14 years: $10 - 1-8 years: $5 - Fun Class: $15 (no trophies) - First Time Shooters: Free (one-time only, no trophies) - Bonus Target: $3 extra - Family Maximum: $30 for immediate family (couple + kids in junior divisions)
Archers shoot in groups of 3-5 (minimum 2 adults) through marked 3D courses. Traditional archers must group minimum 3, maximum at host discretion. Each archer gets two scorecards tracked by two scorekeepers—both must agree or archer gets lower score.
Shooting Rules: - 2-minute time limit per shot once at stake - All distances unknown except Known Distance classes - No broadheads on range during tournaments - No laser sighting devices - Rangefinders only for designated distance classes - Binoculars allowed but subject to inspection - Chronograph speed checks required at every tournament (290 fps max, 240 fps for youth, 3% error margin allowed)
Scoring uses 12-10-8-5-X rings (14-ring optional at host discretion). Pass-throughs (arrows exiting target face but remaining in target) score maximum 10 points. Robin Hoods (arrows embedding in arrow nocks) score same as the struck arrow.
All shooters must abide by comprehensive tournament rules. Unsportsmanlike conduct, profanity, unsafe shooting, and alcohol consumption on club property result in immediate expulsion. A second rule violation in the same calendar year bans participation in all CCAA tournaments for the remainder of that year.
