Dismal Swamp Outfitters operates out of Gates County, NC, positioned directly against the Great Dismal Swamp National Wildlife Refuge—over 200,000 acres with consistent black bear populations. The outfit runs eight farms dedicated to year-round habitat management, keeping bears well-fed and populations healthy.
Every hunt comes with on-site lodging and meals. The guides handle drop-off, pickup, and field dressing. You focus on hunting—they handle the rest.

Licenses are not included but can be purchased online through NCWRC. Meat processing available for $200 if you want them to handle cleanup.
You supply your own weapon, hunting clothes, knee boots, rain gear, and several large coolers for meat and hide. A flashlight (green or red), orange hat/vest, and warm layers are essential. A portable heater for the enclosed stand is optional but popular for cold season hunts.
Run by Eastern NC natives who grew up hunting the region, the outfit focuses on trophy-class black bears and mature whitetail deer. The hardest decision on your hunt is which animal to harvest—they manage the logistics.
Merchandise available on-site includes mesh-back snap-back hats ($30), long-sleeve shirts and hoodies ($30-$40), and logo stickers ($5) in multiple colors.
