Pitt County Sheriff's Office issues concealed handgun permits for North Carolina. They're the official issuing authority—you'll work directly with them from application to issuance.
Military veterans may qualify for expedited processing—bring your discharge papers.
1. Complete your application online (computers available in office if needed) 2. Schedule an appointment for in-person review 3. Get fingerprinted at the office 4. Sheriff submits fingerprints to State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) 5. SBI issues your permit (approximately 90 days total)

| Duplicate permit | $15 |
Apply to renew before your permit expires, but no more than 90 days prior. If your permit expired less than 60 days ago, apply as a new applicant but skip the training course requirement. If it's been more than 60 days, you must retake the concealed handgun training course.
Report any address change within 30 days in person. Lost or destroyed permits require a notarized statement and the $15 duplicate fee.
