Full description and what we offer
Stone Prairie Outfitters runs guided duck, goose, and deer hunts across south-central North Dakota's pothole region. Owner Chad "Stone" Pfeifer, a pro-staffer for Avery/GHG/Banded, has been guiding in the area for over 11 years. Lead whitetail guide Jon Schulz rounds out the operation.
Mornings start between 5:00-6:00 AM with coffee and continental breakfast. Waterfowl hunts run until mid-morning, then back to the lodge for lunch. Afternoons offer flexibility—hunt ponds again, scout pheasants, hit the trap range, or let guides prep for the next morning's setup.
"I've been coming out here for the past 3 years. And every experience has been nothing short of amazing. We fly all the way from Maine just because this place is like home." — Mark, returning client
Thousands of potholes across the region keep birds moving. Hunters can expect to encounter Canadians, Mallards, Scaup, Red Heads, Canvasbacks, Wigeons, Pintails, Gadwalls, and Teal. Stone Prairie scouts the night before each hunt to find the best setup for your group.
Most hunts are spot-and-stalk—glassing from high hills across open country where mature bucks hide in tall weeds, cattails, and unexpected terrain. Limited rifle tags available annually (book early), but bow tags available over the counter.
Pheasant self-scouting and trap shooting are available during afternoon downtime if you want to mix activities into your hunt.
The operation scaled from 18 clients in 2016 (when Chad took over) to nearly 200 in 2023. Their lodge has been featured on The Ultimate Hunt TV show and numerous hunting magazines. Hunts are customizable by species, physical ability, and preference for field or water hunting.
