Burtzland Outfitters runs three separate outdoor shooting ranges on their Alliance property, all open during business hours (M-F 10am-6pm, Sat 10am-4pm). Range time costs $12.99 per hour.

• •Range 1 (40 yards): Wide setup handles groups of 5-10 people, 60-yard walk from parking. This is their most popular range.

• •Range 2 (40 yards): Narrower configuration works best for groups of 3-4, popular for short-range rifle work.

• •Range 3 (60 yards): Longest option. Shoot from bench at three different distances with two berms for target setup before the main 60-yard backstop. All three ranges currently have bullet traps installed.

Rental firearms available for $5 each (ammunition must be purchased on-site). Shooters must be 18+ or accompanied by a legal guardian. Everyone checks in, signs a waiver, and must wear eye and ear protection.

Unlike larger courses that put 50+ students in one class, Burtzland keeps groups small and runs one-on-one range instruction. Here's what separates them:

• •Two full hours on the range (state requirement met completely, unlike shops that cut it short)
• •Bring your own firearm – strongly encouraged. No limitation to .22s or cheap rentals. You'll train with the gun you'll actually carry (9mm, .380, .38, etc.)
• •Holster allowed during training – most ranges forbid this. They handle it safely by ensuring no loaded firearms behind the shooting line
• •Small class sizes – call for available dates instead of waiting for the next 80-person session
• •Accessible instruction – they've trained people with amputations, paralysis, arthritis, visual impairment, and mobility issues. They adapt form, not standards
• •Online portion available – 6-hour class completed at your pace, then come in for 2-hour range requirement. Pick from multiple range dates.

• •Cost: $75 (includes two $26-value range tickets plus passport photo for sheriff application). You only need to bring a gun and 50 rounds.

Bought a firearm online? They handle transfers. Process:

1. Email them their FFL license (available as screenshot/JPEG from their site or Facebook photos) 2. Seller ships to: Burtzland Outfitters, 2330 S Mahoning Ave, Alliance OH 44601 3. Seller must include your name and phone number in the box 4. Private individuals may ship handguns (include color copy of ID) 5. When package arrives, they'll contact you to come in for paperwork

• •FBI NICS Background Check: Runs instantly through the computer. If delayed (rare), you wait up to 3 business days for FBI to respond. Ohio CCW holders skip the FBI check entirely – instant approval using just your concealed carry license number.

Standard rate: $45/hour. Some jobs are bid based on estimated time. Small work (AR-15 assembly, scope mounting, sight repair/replacement) handled in-house. Larger jobs sent to Travis Hallock (licensed gunsmith, US Army veteran, runs Hallock's Gunsmithing in Diamond, OH – 330-524-7494).

They buy used guns and price fairly. Most shops subtract 50% from retail value; pawnshops subtract 70%. Burtzland subtracts 30%, meaning you get 70% of retail value – the best prices in Northeast Ohio. They need profit to keep lights on, but they're not running a margin game.
