Full description and what we offer
Founded in 1948, Erie County Conservation League operates on approximately 100 acres at 815 Mason Road East in Milan, Ohio (just east of Route 250). The club has built its reputation on a simple principle: safety first, with professional Range Safety Officer oversight and multiple inspection protocols.
The property includes dedicated shooting areas for every discipline:
- •Rifle ranges: 50, 100, 200, and 300-yard lanes
- •Steel target range: 50-yard all-steel setup (additional fee, safety briefing required, members only)
- •West ranges: Two additional 35 and 50-yard options
- •Pistol range: 25-yard facility
- •Trap and skeet fields: Open to the public (Sundays 12:00–3:00 pm)
- •Archery: Full range with 3D animal targets
Trap and Skeet is the only open-to-public range. Pistol, rifle, and archery ranges are members-only unless a specific program is advertised as open.
ECCL hosts sanctioned events throughout the year:
| Program | Details |
|---|---|
| Highpower Rifle | CMP-aligned competitions with scoring records and travel series events |
| NRL22 | Rimfire precision rifle matches |
| Rimfire Sporter & Steel Challenge | .22 LR competition formats |
| .22 LR Benchrest | Dedicated accuracy competitions |
| 300-yard matches | Long-range rifle events |
| Chronograph events | LabRadar Doppler radar system for velocity verification (members only, weather-dependent, May–August) |
| Junior Rifle Program | Youth marksmanship training |
| Women's programs | Including annual Marie Casper Ladies Day |
| Revere's Riders events | Mounted shooting activities |
| Action shooting | Dynamic firearm disciplines |
Members can access LabRadar brand Doppler radar chronograph events to measure bullet velocity and ballistic metrics. The radar system doesn't require shots through hoops or direct overhead firing—all measurements happen from the shooting line. These are weather-dependent events (check website for cancellations due to rain/high winds). Note: The unit may not measure .22 LR rounds reliably.
ECCL has sponsored or hosted: - Back to the Wild (wildlife rehabilitation center, Castalia, Ohio) - Boy Scouts Camp Over - CAP Civil Air Patrol Cadets - Erie County Junior Fair - Ohio Tactical Officers Association training
All shooting must stop before sunset. No shots fired after sunset.
| Day | Hours |
|---|---|
| Sunday | 9:45 am–7:45 pm (late opening as courtesy to neighbors) |
| Monday–Saturday | 8:00 am–7:45 pm |
All ranges are members-only unless a program is specifically listed as open to the public.
New members need either a current member sponsor or must meet with a Club Ambassador. Contact the membership committee at [email protected] to arrange an ambassador meeting. Multiple membership levels are available through the website.
ECCL operates a formal Range Safety Officer program with designated RSOs including Director John McClure, Assistant Director Al Field, and additional certified personnel. The club maintains incident reporting, inspection checklists, and emergency protocols. A Maxton Soviak Memorial Bench honors service to the club.
