Armed2Defend runs NRA Pistol Instructor certification courses near Columbus, Ohio. If you've been asked by friends to teach concealed carry but didn't have the credentials, this 3-day intensive is where you get certified to do it.
The certification isn't just a rubber stamp. You get:
"Rest assured that you have support after the training through Kevin Sadeski who has trained over 25,000 for Ohio concealed carry and over 700 NRA Instructors!"
Each day runs 8 am to around 8 pm:
| Day | Content | Location |
|---|---|---|
| Day 1 | NRA Basic Pistol Course + Pre-course Qualification | Wagnalls Memorial Library (Lithopolis) + Range (Canal Winchester) |
| Day 2 | NRA Basic Instructor Training (policy, procedures, what makes good instructors) | Classroom only |
| Day 3 | NRA Pistol Instructor Training (hands-on teaching practice) | Classroom + Range time |
You practice teaching other instructor candidates. You'll role-play as both instructor and student so you experience both sides of the classroom.
You must pass the pre-course qualification before Day 1 ends. The qualification tests:
You get three attempts to qualify. About 20% of candidates fail due to safety issues or lack of skill. Come prepared.
Not an Optional Step: Day 1 includes the NRA Basic Pistol course. You cannot skip it. This foundational material makes Days 2 and 3 much easier.
You pay the full class fee when registering. Kevin submits your passing report to the NRA within 10 days (typically a few days). Once submitted, you create your NRA instructor login and finalize your credentials—usually within 1-2 days.
The major pass/fail in this course is your attitude. Kevin trains instructors who will represent the NRA professionally. Come with an open mind and positive attitude—you'll do great. Unsafe gun handling is an automatic fail.
This is instructor-level training, not a beginner's class. If you can't be prepared for the instructor course, you won't be ready to teach after certification. Record yourself handling and shooting beforehand. Identify and fix any safety issues now.
Kevin stays available for follow-up questions: - Where to get completion certificates? - How to promote your courses for free on the NRA site? - What details must go on your certificates?
Many instructors are also earning USCCA Certification to add credentials and expand their course offerings.
Minimum 4 instructor candidates required to hold a class. Typical size is around 10 candidates, though demand can make classes larger or smaller. Larger classes show you a wider variety of instructional styles and teaching techniques.
