Full description and what we offer
The National Rifle Association offers instructor-led training courses throughout Ohio, taught by certified NRA instructors. These hands-on programs combine classroom instruction with practical shooting exercises on approved ranges.
NRA Basics of Pistol Shooting is the entry point for new shooters regardless of experience level. The instructor-led format means direct instruction from start to finish, with both classroom and range components. This course teaches fundamental knowledge, skills, and attitude necessary for safe pistol use.
NRA Concealed Carry (CCW) courses teach the knowledge, skills, and attitude necessary to legally carry a concealed pistol for personal defense. This instructor-led only option gives you direct guidance on everything from carry methods to self-defense law.
NRA Defensive Pistol goes deeper, teaching how to carry and use a concealed pistol ethically, responsibly, and with confidence in real-world scenarios.
NRA Pistol Marksmanship Simulator Training uses virtual training systems to teach pistol fundamentals when range access is limited.
NRA Basic Rifle Shooting covers the knowledge, skills, and attitude necessary for safe rifle use in target shooting. Available as both traditional instructor-led and hybrid (online modules plus hands-on instruction).
NRA FIRST Steps Rifle Orientation targets new rifle purchasers who need an orientation program to safely handle their firearm.
NRA Basic Metallic Cartridge Reloading teaches beginning reloaders how to safely reload ammunition, with instructor-led courses available.
NRA Basic Shotgun Shooting teaches safe and proper shotgun use for shooting moving targets. Instructor-led courses provide hands-on training.
NRA FIRST Steps Shotgun Orientation is designed for new shotgun buyers who need foundational instruction.
Online Shotgun Coach School combines online modules with field training for coaches working with beginning and intermediate shooters in trap, skeet, and sporting clays.
NRA Home Firearm Safety is a non-shooting course covering safe handling and storage of firearms and ammunition in the home—essential for households with children or multiple occupants.
NRA Basic Personal Protection In The Home teaches the knowledge and skills for safe handgun use in home defense scenarios, including information on self-defense law.
NRA Basics of Personal Protection Outside The Home covers avoiding dangerous confrontations and responsible concealed carry for self-defense outside your residence.
NRA Refuse To Be A Victim® Seminars teach crime-avoidance strategies for everyday life. The instructor development workshop (12+ hours) trains people to teach these seminars in their communities.
NRA Women On Target® offers ladies-only half-day or full-day clinics covering multiple shooting disciplines with small caliber firearms and exposure to club activities and additional courses.
NRA Gun Safety Seminar is a quick 45-60 minute introduction to firearm safety fundamentals for new gun owners.
NRA Muzzleloading Courses (partnered with NMLRA) teach safe and efficient use of muzzleloading firearms, with both basic shooter and instructor-level options available.
For those interested in teaching others:
The NRA offers multiple course delivery formats. Many are instructor-led only for direct instruction, while others include hybrid options combining online study with in-person range time. Check course descriptions for specific delivery methods.
Use the NRA's course finder to search by zip code or state. Search filters let you find women-only courses, youth courses, or BSA-specific programs. Most courses are available year-round through certified local instructors at affiliated ranges and facilities.
The NRA is America's longest-standing civil rights organization with over 5 million members dedicated to Second Amendment protection and firearms education.
All instructor-led courses include hands-on range instruction from NRA-certified instructors. The organization's focus is building knowledge, skills, and attitude—not just completing a checkbox requirement.
