Full description and what we offer
PMD Gunsmithing is run by Phil Dyer and operates out of the Giant Eagle Plaza on Elm Road in Warren, Ohio (two doors down from the BMV, between Famous Hair and Edie's Diner). This is a gunsmith shop that handles serious restoration work—turning beat-up firearms into family heirlooms—as well as modern custom modifications and repairs.
They repair firearms from around 1900 to present day, and their approach is different from the typical "swap parts until it works" mentality. They understand firearm design and function first, then diagnose and fix the actual cause of malfunction. After every repair, the gun gets cleaned, lubricated properly, and function-checked. Only when they're satisfied it's performing at its best does it go back to you.
One example from their portfolio: a Colt 1911 with a disabled grip safety from a decade prior, worn bluing on the slide, and a request to convert an ambidextrous safety to left-side only. They rebuilt the grip safety, made the safety conversion, specially fitted new sights, and selectively reblued—touching up worn areas while preserving the original purplish bluing on the sides. Custom fitting on every detail.
Phone line is open Monday–Saturday, 9 AM to 9 PM. Current shop hours are Tuesday evenings 6–8 PM and Saturdays 10 AM–1 PM. Hours vary week to week, so call ahead. If those don't work, they'll set up an appointment. Walk-ins are always welcome.

Hunting season coming up? Bring your shotgun or rifle in for cleaning and service before you head out.
They accept firearms from out of state. Call before shipping so they're expecting the delivery and can discuss your specific needs.
They actually understand firearms design and function—that's not marketing speak, it's how they approach every job. They don't cut corners on finishing work (hand-rubbed stocks, selective rebluing that preserves original character). Their FFL transfer fee is less than half what most shops charge. And Phil Dyer treats your gun like he's working on his own.
