Instructors - Defensive Shooting Academy

Defensive Shooting Academy operates from Tulsa, Oklahoma, but trains students worldwide. The entire instructor cadre consists of active and retired Municipal, State, and Federal Law Enforcement personnel, competition shooters, and military professionals. This isn't a typical civilian firearms school—DSA draws from people who've trained US Secret Service agents, FBI, DEA, Force Recon Marines, Naval Special Warfare Center, and hundreds of law enforcement agencies.

Marshall Luton leads the academy as Director of Operations. A retired Tulsa Police Officer with 27 years of service, Marshall has owned and operated DSA since 2000. He's a CLEET-certified rifle, shotgun, and pistol instructor, former NRA Law Enforcement Firearms Instructor, Rangemaster Certified Instructor, and NRA Carry Guard Distinguished Graduate. His competition credentials include Master class in IDPA SSP, A class in USPSA Production, 5 State Championships, and 4 Regional Championships.

• •Billy Smith — Full-time U.S. Department of Energy Senior Firearms Instructor specializing in counter-terrorism operations. Has trained over 5,000 officers and civilians. Master Instructor for DSA.
• •Eric Fuson — IDPA Distinguished Master (the highest classification in IDPA). Sponsored by Wilson Combat. Master class in multiple IDPA divisions and USPSA Production.
• •Travis Foster — 22-year retired law enforcement officer, lead criminal investigator. CLEET-certified rifle, pistol, and shotgun instructor. Advanced firearms and tactical instruction.
• •Jeremy Snow — Drumright police reserve officer and SWAT team member. Red Dot Instructor, hand-to-hand and edged weapons instructor.
• •Kai Mitchell — DSA instructor since 2012. Trained through Tom Givens 3-Day Instructor Development Course.
• •Lance Jensen — Law enforcement since 1998, ALERRT-certified active shooter instructor, SWAT certified, CLEET firearms instructor.
• •Garrett Grover — Retired Army sniper deployed to Afghanistan, Marine Corps Marksmanship Instructor, 3-Gun national competitor with podium finishes at major championships.
