Full description and what we offer
Oklahoma Gun Training, run by Jamie Meyer, focuses exclusively on women's firearms instruction and competitive shooting. Based at the OKC Gun Club in Arcadia (just northeast of Oklahoma City), the operation has grown into a structured program with regular leagues, specialty courses, and monthly skill-development sessions.
Classes cover the mechanics of shooting—grip, stance, sight alignment, trigger control—but Meyer structures everything around building confidence. First-timers start with classroom work using snap caps and inert training guns before ever touching live ammunition. Intermediate students work on drawing from holsters, engaging multiple targets, shooting on the move, and working with red-dot sights.
Signature offerings include:
Free Gun-Cleaning Event: Meyer hosts occasional free cleaning and maintenance clinics for league members.
Training happens at OKC Gun Club, 12465 NE 234th St, Arcadia, OK 73007. The facility has an outdoor range with pistol bays, training areas, and classroom space. Outdoor conditions apply—students need to dress appropriately and bring water/snacks.
Most classes require specific gear:
| Course Type | Cost (Members/Non) | Ammo | Magazines | Other Items |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Back to Basics | $0 (classroom) | None | None | Lunch |
| Basic Holster | $30/$40 | 200 rds | 2 min | Sturdy belt, Kydex holster |

| GSSF Practice | $10/$15 | 200 rds | 4+ | — |

All students must provide: - Eye and ear protection (non-negotiable) - Reliable handgun (or rent loaner for additional fee) - Own ammunition only (no reloads with rental guns) - Proper footwear (no open-toed shoes on range)
Oklahoma Gun Training runs/participates in the annual OKC GSSF Red Dirt Shootout—a Glock Sport Shooting Foundation match held at OKC Gun Club. GSSF practice sessions prep students for the match format. No need to be a Glock owner; loaner .22lr Glocks available.

Most classes use online registration via Jotform (links provided on event pages). Payment can be made online or in person at class. RSVP is required for some sessions.
Meyer specifically markets to women but offers coed options for some classes (Advanced Holster, GSSF practice). Classes range from total beginners to competitive shooters. The curriculum assumes no prior shooting experience unless noted as intermediate/advanced.
Beginners should start with: - Back to the Basics (if classroom-only appeals to you) - Basic Holster Skills (first live-fire course) - Monthly Ladies Pistol League training sessions
Experienced shooters gravitate to: - Advanced Holster Skills - Ladies Intermediate Pistol League (monthly competitions) - Specialty skill sessions (distance, GSSF, red-dot, situational awareness)
"This course focuses on safety, knowledge, and hands-on learning using inert training guns, snap caps, and structured drills—making it the perfect environment for brand-new shooters or anyone who wants to strengthen foundational skills without the pressure of live fire." — From Back to the Basics course description
