Derek Miller moved to northeast Oregon in his teenage years and spent the next three decades learning to hunt these mountains. After 20 years guiding for other outfitters—watching them profit from his sweat and experience—he decided to take the leap in 2020 and get his own outfitting permit.

What sets this operation apart isn't the size. Derek explicitly doesn't want to be a big-name outfitter. It's a family business. His wife and kids help in camps. He encourages clients to bring their families, knowing that hunting experiences plant seeds that last lifetimes.

Eastern Oregon Outfitters operates on public land across multiple units in north-central and eastern Oregon:

• •Mountain goat (any weapon)

• •Spring bear (rifle, archery options)

Territory includes Mt. Emily, Wenaha, Walla Walla, Catherine Creek, Starkey, Keating, Pine Creek, Lookout Mountain units and others.

Standard Guided Hunts - Rifle hunts: 5 days - Archery hunts: 6 days - Longer hunts available on request

Guide-to-Hunter Ratios - Fully guided: 1 guide per 1 hunter - Semi-guided: 1 guide per 2 hunters

Additional Services - Drop camps (starting at $2,000) - Scouting services ($500/day, includes waypoints, camp locations, trail cam and phone scope pictures/videos) - Game packing service ($1,300) - Guiding-only services ($4,500–$5,500/week, includes transportation) - Non-hunting guests welcome ($200/day)

Clients consistently highlight the quality of camps. Wall tents with wood stoves. Quality gear throughout. Food that stands out in backcountry settings. Derek pays attention to details that matter: heated side-by-sides for glassing terrain, careful equipment selection, crew on standby for game packing.
