Shockwave stood at the center of the 2023-2025 pistol brace legal battle. After aggressive ATF overreach through Final Rule 2021R-08F, federal courts across multiple circuits ruled the regulation "arbitrary and capricious." Key victories:

Judge Reed O'Connor (Northern District of Texas): "The Final Rule violated the APA's procedural requirements because it was not a logical outgrowth of the Proposed Rule."

Judge Matthew Kacsmaryk (same court): Issued nationwide injunction protecting all Americans, noting the rule would cost companies over $1 billion and force manufacturers out of business.

As of July 2025, the Department of Justice dropped its appeal. The pistol brace ban is permanently vacated nationwide.

In 2021, the ATF's Zero Tolerance Policy created hostile conditions for firearms manufacturers. In 2023, the stabilizing brace rule threatened to make millions of legally owned pistols subject to NFA regulation overnight—a $200 tax stamp, registration, and felony charges for non-compliance.

Shockwave worked with Congress (Reps. Bilirakis and Luna, Senator Scott) to fight this legislatively. When that failed in the Senate, they joined lawsuits with the Firearms Policy Coalition, Gun Owners of America, and Second Amendment Foundation.
