Own Black Shark?
01 // DETAILS
Full description and what we offer
Lou Rivera spent years in fraud investigation before shifting careers to pursue his passion for firearms education. Joined by his wife Miko—who's pursuing her CPR and First Aid certification—they launched BlackShark LLC with a straightforward mission: make safe firearm ownership the norm, not the exception.
BlackShark runs four core training programs:
Concealed Carry Classes (NJ Only) - The NJ Civilian Carry Assessment and Range Evaluation (NJ CCARE) takes 3-4 hours - Satisfies all requirements to apply for or renew your NJ Permit to Carry (NJ PTC) - Runs October through December - Includes live range qualifications
Basic Pistol & Shooting Fundamentals - Covers firearm safety, handling techniques, sight picture and alignment - Hands-on practice with proper grip, stance, and trigger control - For beginners or anyone who needs a refresher - Designed for all skill levels
Firearms Safety & Storage Class - Essential skills for safe handling and operation - Proper storage practices (gun safes, lock boxes, secure storage methods) - How to legally travel with a firearm - Keeping firearms away from unauthorized hands - Recommended for families wanting to learn together
Firearm Cleaning & Maintenance - Field stripping and cleaning techniques - Disassembly, lubrication, and reassembly - Hands-on training for various firearm types - Prevents malfunctions and extends weapon lifespan
Not a class person? They run private one-on-one sessions, couples training, and group outings. Lou will either come to you or meet at a neutral range location. Groups larger than 5 people need 2 weeks' notice for range sessions.
Free Resource: Ask about their free guide to getting your FID, Handgun Purchaser's Permit, and Permit to Carry for New Jersey.
1. Treat every gun as if it were loaded — Even if you think it's unloaded, handle it that way. Double and triple check. 2. Never point the muzzle at anything you're not willing to shoot — This applies whether the gun is loaded or not. 3. Keep your finger off the trigger until ready to shoot — Finger rests high and away from the trigger guard until you're absolutely certain. 4. Be sure of your target and what's beyond it — Know what's behind, in front of, and around your target before pulling the trigger.
