Full description and what we offer
Don't let the name fool you. Custom Gun Finishes does far more than finish work. They buy and sell firearms, stock ammo and reloading supplies, handle FFL transfers on your online purchases, and offer professional gunsmithing and repair services.
Owned and operated by Troy Dando from Cumbola, PA, the shop serves competitive shooters, recreational hunters, law enforcement, and anyone who takes their firearms seriously.
Troy is a Certified Finisher and Authorized Dealer of DuraCoat®—an industrial specialty coating that's permanent, durable, and comes in nearly 200 finishes. The finish options run from flat and tactical to semi-gloss, metallic, pearl, and velvet topcoats.
Why send your gun out for this? DuraCoat is temperature and humidity sensitive. A novice application fails. Proper prep and application determine everything. Troy received his certification from Steve Lauer, President of Lauer Custom Weaponry in Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin. He understands adhesion, color permanence, and the fact that DuraCoat can't be removed without expensive alum oxide blasting—so he gets it right the first time.
"Make The Old New, Make The New Custom"
Typical pistol or long gun refinishing starts under $275. Troy discusses every project in detail—showing examples and providing quotes upfront—because color selection is permanent. Unlike Krylon or gun-coat, you don't get a second chance.
Troy is TWN Industries' Master Decorator for water transfer printing. Hydrographics deliver eye-catching camo and custom patterns—Multi-Cam, ATACS, Reaper Z, Predator Deception, Desert Digital, Woodland Digital, and more. The DIY kits exist but produce lousy results. The $100 kit plus $50-100 in supplies, prepping, and finishing? For a few more dollars, leave it to someone trained and get a quality finish.
Minor gunsmithing services include:
Custom Gun Finishes offers traditional hot bluing with meticulous prep and buffing technique—key to a consistent, top-quality finish. They also offer Parkerizing (the military finish) and DuraCoat Gun Blue, which mimics traditional bluing while providing unlimited protection.
The Minersville location (139 Sunbury Street) stocks handguns, long guns, ammunition, and reloading supplies. They are Class I & Class III dealers, meaning they buy, sell, and trade firearms. They handle FFL transfers on your online purchases—ship to them, they process the paperwork.
