Full description and what we offer
Jere Dunkelberger started this business in February 1972 with $16,500, a rented storefront on 6th Street in downtown Stroudsburg, and $4.73 in the register at closing on day one. He'd just left a state surveyor job to make it happen. Five decades later, the company expanded from that single room to over 16,000 square feet across multiple interconnected storefronts on Main Street—so much expansion that Jere got "pretty good at knocking holes through walls."
The business makes sense: born and raised in the Poconos, he understood the market. Hunting, fishing, boating, hiking, and camping are serious business in this region, with the Delaware and Lehigh Rivers nearby and mountain terrain built for sportsmen.
Both locations stock the same core departments:

Exclusive to the Stroudsburg Main Street location, Dunkelberger's for Men carries traditional and classic men's clothing, while Dunkelberger's for Women offers upscale classic clothing and accessories. These are separate boutique operations within the larger complex.
All employees are knowledgeable about the products they sell. The staff operates with "old fashioned courtesy and professionalism." Jere's philosophy was always offering advice when customers asked for it—and knowing when to keep quiet when they didn't.
Jere's daughter, Tricia (the 6-month-old in 1972), now runs the Women's Store and is involved across all business operations.
Online shopping available - Shop DSO.com for select inventory, though the Main Street and Route 209 locations stock the full selection.
