Irwin Sportsmen's Association operates dedicated shooting ranges in Irwin, PA—about 20 minutes east of Pittsburgh. The club maintains:
All rifle ranges have concrete floors for prone shooting and easy shell cleanup. Straight-wall ammunition only on the pistol and silhouette ranges. All calibers permitted on the rifle range—no green tip, tracer, tin, glass, or explosive targets.

Most shoots charge a minimal fee to cover costs. Check the website calendar or newsletter for dates and details.
ISA offers Hunter-Trapper Education (HTE) classes at least once yearly, typically scheduled for October. Classes run 8:30 AM to 4:00 PM with lunch provided (hot dogs, chips, pop). This is the official Pennsylvania Game Commission hunter safety certification.
The 2025 class is scheduled for October 12th. Sign up through the website.
The ISA Post 228 Junior Rifle Team practices year-round in the clubhouse Monday and Tuesday evenings starting at 6:00 PM. The club received a 2024 Midway USA Foundation Range Improvement Grant for roof, chimney, and junior team space.
The club also offers Daisy BB gun instruction for ages 7 and up. The program uses match-grade Daisy 887 CO2 rifles and follows Daisy's Ten Lesson Curriculum covering: - Gun safety fundamentals - Shooting positions and technique - Sight adjustments - Target scoring
Training is $10 per tier (Entry, Intermediate, Advanced). Eye protection required. Each student receives a journal to track advancement. Parents or guardians must attend classes. The program is currently seeking certified instructors to restart.
Membership includes your spouse, significant other, and all children under 18. One paying member must accompany dependents. Kids become paying members at 18 for $30 (initiation fee waived).
Three work parties per year required. Members with fewer than three owe $20 per missing party. Work parties run April through October—Wednesday evenings (5-7 PM) and second Wednesday mornings (9-11 AM). Multiple ways to earn credit including attending general meetings (4 meetings = 1 work party), helping at the Open House, range monitoring, or selling raffle tickets.
