Full description and what we offer
Syria Shriners Gun Club has been organizing competitive trap shooting in the Pittsburgh region for nearly 70 years. Membership requires being a Shriner or Mason, but the club welcomes guests—especially Masonic guests—to participate in their events.
The club holds four business meetings per year (January, April, July, November) on the fourth Saturday at a local sportsmen's club in the Pittsburgh area. After each meeting, members compete in trap shooting events: singles, doubles, and handicap competitions.
Beyond quarterly meetings, the club runs a BIG 50 singles event each month (February through November) where scores can be entered into ATA (American Trap Association) records.
"Shooting... A Noble Sport" — Club motto since organization in 1955
The host club rotates annually. Winners receive trophies for individual events and a Tri-Shrine trophy goes to the overall winning club. The emphasis is on fellowship and informal Shrine camaraderie.
Many members also compete in the annual PSSA (Pennsylvania State Shotgunning Association) competition in Elysburg each June.
The club's core mission combines shooting with philanthropy. Members conduct raffles and fundraisers throughout the year to support: - Shrine Hospitals for Children (Erie, Philadelphia) - Ohio Burns Center (Dayton)
During the PSSA competition, the club runs a two-day 50/50 raffle that typically raises over $3,000. They also participate in the annual Syria Shriners Sportsman's Bash each June with a gun raffle that adds another $3,000+ in donations.
