ATA Registered Shoots - Aberdeen Gun Club

Aberdeen Gun Club has been running youth trap shooting leagues for over two decades. The program started with 15 teams in 2004 and grew to 27 teams by 2011. The club doesn't turn away kids who want to shoot—teams are divided into five divisions from 4th grade through 12th grade (Rookies, Jr. Varsity Intermediate, Varsity Intermediate, Jr. Varsity Seniors, and Varsity Seniors). Winners from each division compete at the South Dakota State Shoot in July, with the club covering all shooting fees and ammunition. The season wraps with an awards picnic where trophies go to division winners and individual shooters.

• •Tuesday Night League runs April through the season with about 20 adult teams. Each team competes head-to-head weekly until they've shot every other team. The format: 25 16-yard targets and 25 handicap targets per week at $17/week (shells not included). Points are awarded for individual and team wins, and an awards banquet happens at season's end.

• •Doubles League lets shooters compete individually over 10 weeks, shooting 25 pair of doubles each week. You can shoot as many times as you want, but only 25 pair count toward league standings.

• •Skeet League runs Thursday evenings mid-June through a 10-week season, 50 targets per week per shooter.

The club hosts multiple ATA registered shoots throughout the year, including the Northern Zone Shoot, Central Zone Shoot, Dacotah Bank Shoot, and the Scott Hanson Memorial events.

Both trap and skeet ranges are available for rental—businesses, clubs, schools, weddings, bachelor/bachelorette parties, and other groups. Trap costs $9 per round (25 targets) with a $150 minimum for one trap; additional traps run $100 minimum each. The skeet and 5-Stand Sporting Clays ranges available by arrangement.

• •Juniors: $7.50 for 25 targets

Shells are available for purchase at the club.

The clubhouse seats 80 indoors with outdoor space available. Rental is $500/day during summer and fall months (no winter/spring rentals). Outside catering and beverages are allowed—it's used for business retreats, weddings, receptions, reunions, anniversaries, birthdays, showers, graduations, fundraisers, and special events.
