Full description and what we offer
JB Outfitters has been guiding hunters on the Wammen Ranch since the early 2000s. It's a 5th generation family business operating on over 15,000 acres of privately owned property in Reva, South Dakota—where public access is prohibited and the land borders Slim Buttes National Forest. This matters because it means consistent game populations, selective hunting pressure, and terrain that challenges both newcomers and experienced hunters.
Big Game (Fair Chase) - Whitetail Deer - Rifle or archery. Multiple prime hunting grounds with tree stands and blinds available. Consistent trophy-class animals year over year. - Mule Deer - Fair chase hunts with the same professional strategies used for whitetail. - Pronghorn Antelope - Rifle or bow hunts for antelope, which means dealing with their unique behavior and challenging terrain. Not casual hunting.
Upland Birds (September–March) - Pheasant, sharptail grouse, Hungarian partridge, and chukar - Includes trained hunting dogs (bring your own, or use theirs) - On-site trap shooting range to practice before the hunt
The Wammen Ranch offers every type of big game hunting habitat: pine forests, rolling prairies, hay fields, meadows, draws, and hills. For bird hunting, they use food plots, corn strips, creek bottoms, and other diverse cover. Hunters can choose tree stand hunting, multiple blind setups, or sneak-and-stalk approaches.
You'll stay in a three-story plantation-style home built in 1907 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It's been modernized inside—New York-style finished interior—but keeps its old-world character. The setup includes:

Note: Archery pricing is per-person, based on double occupancy. Rifle packages include lodging, meals, and guides. Upland bird packages include 5-bird daily limit, lodging, meals, guides, and dogs. Non-hunters can tag along for $150/day.
JB Outfitters claims they've "never sent home a disgruntled guest." Guest testimonials consistently mention the staff, the quality of game available, and the hospitality. Multiple hunters specifically note this has better game quality than other South Dakota hunts they've been on.
Location: Reva, South Dakota (elevation 3,054 ft) in Butte County, in the heart of what locals call "Sportsman's Paradise." Northwestern South Dakota's remote location means fewer hunters, more game, and genuine solitude.
