Full description and what we offer
Fischers Firearm Training operates out of Agis Arms (3915 S Sam Houston Pkwy E, Houston, TX 77047) and offers hands-on firearms instruction led by USCCA Certified Instructors Sheila and Karl Fischer. Their approach balances safety fundamentals with the legal and psychological realities of carrying or using a firearm for self-defense.
Fischers offers five core courses:
6 hours | $150 | Includes 1 hour range time
Their flagship course covers personal protection planning, self-defense basics, shooting fundamentals, gear selection, the legal use of force, and handling the aftermath of violent encounters. Topics include handgun selection, operation, safety rules, and how your body reacts under stress. The course is interactive—lots of hands-on practice, lots of questions encouraged. You get certified range safety officers (three instructors for every three participants). Firearms available if you request them; they recommend starting with a .22, then moving to 9mm for beginners.
3 hours | $60 | Includes 1 hour range time
Classroom + range hybrid. Covers the four rules of safety, sight alignment, trigger control, grip, breathing, stance (basic isosceles triangle), and follow-through. You'll learn handgun parts, loading, racking the slide, safety features, and how to unload and verify clear. Handgun rentals available; ear and eye protection provided if needed.
2 hours | $25 | Classroom only
Focuses on the difference between reasonable and deadly force—how judges, prosecutors, and juries interpret these situations. Covers force laws at home and outside. Includes real-world scenario practice to help you understand your rights and decision-making.
2 hours | $25 | Classroom only
Addresses the physiological reality of combat stress: fight-or-flight response, adrenaline, endorphins. You'll learn threat recognition, commands, when deadly force is necessary and when it stops. Critical section on what to do after defending yourself—who to call, how to talk to police, how to act during and after arrest even if you acted legally.
2 hours | $25 | Classroom only
Covers conflict avoidance, situational awareness, color codes of awareness, risk identification, cover and exit techniques, and why a carry permit matters in a comprehensive self-defense strategy.
Many states now allow permitless concealed carry. Fischers argues—correctly—that legal permission to carry doesn't equal competence to carry. Training matters whether your state requires it or not.
Their training philosophy hinges on nine concrete benefits:
1. Safety and responsibility — Professional instruction on handling, storage, and keeping firearms away from children. 2. Marksmanship under stress — Understanding firearm mechanics, proper stance, and the muscle memory needed when it counts. 3. Legal knowledge — Know where you can and can't carry, what self-defense actually means in court, what happens after a shooting. 4. Situational awareness — Recognizing threats and avoiding danger before it escalates. 5. Confidence — Familiarity with your weapon and the knowledge to handle it builds composure under pressure. 6. Psychological preparation — Understanding the mental weight of potentially using lethal force. 7. Physical readiness — Speed, coordination, and defensive tactics beyond just shooting. 8. Community — Networking with other responsible gun owners. 9. Realistic scenarios — Practice responding to actual threats in controlled settings.
