Full description and what we offer
Lost Creek Outfitters operates across three prime hunting locations in Wyoming—Cody, Casper, and Dubois—with a focus on trophy hunts that prioritize quality over volume. The outfit was acquired in 2017 by Jimmy Owens, a third-generation outfitter whose family has been guiding big game in Wyoming for decades. The original owners, Griz and Ginger Turner, remain part of the team and continue the bighorn sheep outfitting legacy they built.
Their sheep guides are dedicated professionals with in-depth knowledge of Wyoming's most challenging terrain. Learning where sheep live, how they move, and how to reach them requires patience and years of experience—something Lost Creek has perfected through decades of work and constant adaptation to natural changes in the landscape.
The outfit maintains a wilderness elk camp outside Dubois that specializes in prime elk country hunts. They offer both archery and traditional mule/horseback hunts for hunters capable of riding and stalking at high altitudes.
Every guide on the roster brings serious backcountry credentials:
Jimmy Owens (Outfitter & Owner) – Lifetime Wyoming resident, third-generation outfitter. Spent five years guiding in Alaska before acquiring Lost Creek in 2017, where he worked with grizzly bears, sheep, caribou, and moose. Known for "no trace left behind" philosophy and meticulous handling of meat and hides.
Mike Owens – Jimmy's brother, professional gunsmith who graduated from the Colorado School of Trades in Gunsmithing in 2013. Builds custom long-range rifles through Teapot Creek Precision.
BJoe Coy – 50+ years in the mountains. Managed Boulder Basin camp (1972–1982) overseeing wranglers and guides. Owned and operated Yellow Creek Outfitting for 30 years, guiding over 600 elk and deer hunters plus 168 bighorn sheep hunters.
Ethan Johnson – Started guiding whitetail in Nebraska (2006), registered guide with Big Game Back Country Guides in Alaska. Also a bush pilot who owns Shublik Outfitters in Alaska.
Cameron Schmidt – Cody native with five years at Lost Creek. Avid hunter who harvested a Dall sheep with Raven's Throat Outfitters in the Northwest Territories.
Josh Taylor – Cody native with 25 years guiding experience in Cody country. Known for executing in tough hunting and weather conditions. Works fire for the forest service in off-season.
All guides are knowledgeable in backcountry travel, horses and mules, and packing to ensure safe and successful trips.
Hunts are booked on a first-come, first-serve basis with strictly limited numbers to maintain quality control. Clients can choose to stay at rustic lodges in either Cody or Casper depending on their hunt.
Wyoming is a points-based draw state for many species, so booking well in advance is essential. Lost Creek provides detailed booking information, client information sheets, and gear lists to help prepare.
